About Me

I have an unreasonable addiction to health and beauty aids. The linen closet in my house is packed with them, so much so that we refer to the closet as “CVS,” as in “Honey, do we have any hand sanitizer?” “I think so. Check in CVS, the third shelf.”

My other love, which is much more reasonable, is a love of animals. I’ve always had pets, I volunteer my time at shelters and sanctuaries, and I donate money to animal protection groups. My dream is to one day own an animal sanctuary… admittedly that day is probably far away.

So ever since I was a preteen ogling the products at The Body Shop in the mall then buying Wet ‘n Wild with my meager allowance, I have been aware of how animals are harmed in the testing of beauty products. At one point in my life, I could ignore the sad fact that my cosmetics were killing animals. Now, however, I cannot. I’ve made the decision to only buy cruelty-free health and beauty aids.

This blog will list all the amazing cruelty-free (and often eco-friendly) products I’ve bought, tried, and loved (or not loved). I will also continue trying new products and sharing the results. I’m always looking for new things to try, so please send me the names of any cruelty-free products you love or would like me to try.

Lastly, please enjoy this picture of me and my dogs.

  1. Nice to find you! I’m glad you are promoting and reviewing cruelty-free beauty products. Some of my favourites are Cocoon Apothecary skin care and Emani makeup but I’m always up for learning about more great companies out there!

  2. Hi Michelle, I love what you’re doing here! I found out how prevalent animal testing is in our beauty products after adopting a beagle (70,000 beagles being tested on in labs RIGHT NOW- GROSS). And now am on the quest to share cruelty-free info and advice to everyone! I will definitely be recommending your site.

One brand I haven’t seen on here that I LOVE: Salma Hayek’s NUANCE. They sell it at my local CVS and I am a true believer. I have everything from hair mousse to lotion to bronzer and have been more than satisfied with it ALL. Let’s admit it, sometimes cruelty-free products can disappoint because without all the chemicals they’re not as effective as methylbutanephtlatecrazydeathpoison. I have not found this to be the case with NUANCE and am thrilled. It’s completely cruelty-free, it’s totally affordable, it smells/feels/and works WONDERFULLY, and the best part is it’s at your local CVS!

    • Thanks for taking the time to comment, Carmen! And thanks for the info on Salma Hayek’s NUANCE. I’ve seen it at CVS but haven’t tried any of the products yet. I invite you to write a guest post about your favorite NUANCE products–I would love to hear your perspective!

  3. Hi Michelle, what a wonderful blog! We are PEP (Professional Ethical Practitioners). a new UK holistic membership and accrediting body encouraging therapists and training providers to use only cruelty-free and natural products whenever possible. We have partnered with Face the World, a really lovely beauty product range, and I know that their CEO Liz would be delighted to send you some samples. Tell her Claire referred you! http://www.face-the-world.co.uk/categories/Internet-Shop/Products-for-Retail-/

    • Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! I checked out the Face the World site and have to say that I want to try everything. I will definitely be getting either the full sample set or the travel set. And then I’ll be sure to post about the products! Thanks again–I always love hearing about new cruelty-free products. Best of luck with your membership body!

  4. Your dogs are awesome! (Your blog is great too!). Thanks for this important work — very helpful to all of who endeavor to buy cruelty-free.

We are Relogy, sellers of natural, cruelty-free and vegan beauty fixes incorporating fresh ingredients, created especially for “finicky” skin.
